The event entitled " Political Ecology: theory, research, action" will take place on the 25 th of March, starting at 15.00, at CIUL-Centro de Informação Urbana de Lisboa and at CES – Lisboa, which are located at Picoas Plaza, Rua do Viriato No. 13 ( map).
The aim of the event is to launch the Ecology and Sociology Workshop, which is a working group from CES that carries out research in the area of political ecology. It is divided into two main parts:
– Interactive audio-visual show about the research work of the Ecosoc/CES team under the auspices of the 'Entitle' projects (a European network for research in political ecology), 'Ejolt' (environmental conflict atlas) and 'Portugal: the environment in movement' – which is a partnership between CES (Coimbra), SOCIUS (Lisboa) and CETEM (Rio de Janeiro). The show will include an interactive map of environmental conflicts in Portugal, which was put together in collaboration with various Portuguese environment groups and associations.
– Conference led by Professor Joan Martinez Alier (Universidade Autónoma de Barcelona), who is a well-known author on European and Latin American political ecology, and the coordinator of the 'Ejolt' project. He is also the manager of the Political Ecology journal.
– Exhibition of the film – "The Toxic Amazon", by Felipe Milanez (a researcher with the Ecosoc/CES team and the 'Entitle' project), who won the UN Hero of the Forest prize in 2011.
