During 2020, ISEG will play tribute to the work and memory of the economist, Manuela Silva, who was a honoris causa graduate and professor of ISEG. In February, ISEG will organise an event in her memory, and later in October a scientific conference will be dedicated to the topic of International Poverty Eradication Day (October 17). Throughout the year, ISEG will promote the edition of a book in her memory.
A former Secretary of State for Planning of the First Constitutional Government, Manuela Silva was public face of the fight against poverty in Portugal. Poverty eradication is the first of the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals, and it is in this context that ISEG – Lisbon School of Economics and Management is planning a series of initiatives to pay tribute to Manuela Silva, a pioneer in the study of inequality and poverty in our country.
“With a life dedicated to causes of major economic and social relevance, Manuela Silva’s legacy fits perfectly into ISEG’s DNA: being at the forefront of quantitative knowledge in the areas of Economics and Management, with particular focus on social contextualisation”, explainsClara Raposo, Dean of ISEG.
2020 is also the year when ISEG is going to launch its sustainability platform, which will present the contribution made by its alumni, students, faculty, and staff in the context the 17 Sustainable Development Objectives (SDO) of the UN 2030 agenda.
