The launch and autograph session of the book by Prof. Nuno Valério entitled “Portuguese expansion – an Economic History”, will take place at the Lisbon Book Fair, on the 10th of September, at 18.00.
The work is edited by Principia and it provides a broad perspective of Portugal’s external historical and economic process over time ever ranging from the conquest of Ceuta in 1415 and the handing over of Macau’s administration to China in 1999, which presents the following aspects from an integrative perspective:
- The consequences for the formation of the contemporary world society of the exploration voyages of new oceanic routes sailed by Portuguese navigators in the 15th and 16th centuries – the so-called Discoveries – in the context of world-systems theory;
- The transformations brought about to Portuguese life by the successive Portuguese colonial empires that existed between the 15th and 20th centuries;
- The impact of the connection to Portugal on the evolution of each of the countries and regions under Portuguese domain.
