Economics I (1 º Sem 2019/2020)

ECN

Método de Avaliação

There are two assessment options in Economics 1: midterm test plus exam or the repeat-period exam. We strongly recommend you take the midterm test plus exam, as it involves work throughout the semester, so making it easier for you to successfully learn. Besides if you take the midterm test plus exam and fail you can still take the repeat-period exam; if you pass the midterm test plus exam you can also take the repeat-period exam to improve your grade.

Midterm test plus exam

This option consists of a midterm test and the regular-period exam. If you miss the midterm test you will not be allowed to take the regular-period exam. Your final grade will be as follows (grades are out of 20):

a)       If you get less than 7.5 in the exam your final grade is the exam grade, and you fail;

b)       If you get at least 7.5 in the exam and at least 5 in the midterm test your final grade is an average with 40% weight for the midterm and 60% for the exam if the your midterm grade is higher than your exam grade; otherwise your final grade is just the exam grade.

c)        If you get at least 7.5 in the exam but less than 5 in the midterm then your final grade is the average with 40% weight for the midterm and 60% for the exam.

This means that if you have at least 7.5 in the exam your midterm grade does not count if it is less than that in your exam as long as it is at least 5; if it is less than 5 it will always count.

The midterm test is a 75-minute test consisting of multiple-choice questions and open-answer exercises. It is on the 28th of Octoberber at 8.30 am! We will announce the topics covered in the test in due time.

The regular-period exam (exame em época normal) is a two-hour-and-fifiteen-minute exam consisting of multiple-choice questions and open-ended questions and exercises of the type as has been used in previous years. It is on the 6th of January 2020 at 9 am.

Repeat-Period Exam

Students who choose not to take the midterm test can take the repeat-period exam (exame em época de recurso), which is on the 3rd of February 2020 at 12 noon. If you take the midterm test plus exam and fail you can take the repeat-period exam too. Your midterm test grade will count towards your final mark with the same 40% weight only if they improve on your mark in the repeat-period exam (regardless of whether it at least 5 or not, but, again, you must have at least 7.5 in the exam). If you pass under midterm-plus-exam option you can still take the repeat-period exam to improve your grade (you need to register for the exam at the Undergraduate Office in this case, but not if you have not passed yet). The grade in your midterm test will no longer count in this case. The repeat-period exam is of the same type and subject to the same rules as the regular-period exam.

Books, notes, and electronic devices

All exams and tests are closed-book: you cannot look up any books or notes. You can use a nongraphical calculator (see "Authorised Calculators" under "See More") only. Mobile phones, computers, tablets and any other data-storage device must be switched off and put away.

Fraud

Fraud in any assessment is punishable under Article 12 of ISEG's General Regulations for Assessment of Undergraduate Degrees, Students Disciplinary Regulations of the University of Lisbon, and the general law, namely the Código dos Direitos de Autor e dos Direitos Conexos (copyright and related rights).
