Objectives
The promotion of scientific culture and public participation in science and technology.
Policies and public programmes.
Study and practice of different forms of communication: communicating among scientists, journalism (press, radio, television and Internet), institutional communication, public relations, science museums and science centres.

- Scientific culture; policies and public programmes for the promotion of scientific culture;
- The two cultures (?Science wars?); Organization of the scientific community.;
- Institutional communication/ Public relations (Press-release; press conferences, newsletters, Internet, crisis management);
- Science Journalism (editorial board; agenda; different types of news: research article, features, interviews, profiles; embargo; Information sources: scientists e journals, agencies, Alphagalileo, Eurekalert; practical exercises);
- Science centres (from Exploratorium (EUA, 1969) to the Knowledge Pavillion (PT, 1999).
Assessment Methodology
The final grade, on a 0-20 scale, is awarded on the basis of a written exam. The students' performance during the semester may, possibly, also be taken into account.
