Objectives
This course aims at providing the instruments for:
Understanding the causes of population ageing, as well as its geographical patterns, placing Portugal in the world context.
Recognizing the specificities of the economic behaviours associated with the different stages of the life cycle, manely in what concerns consumption and saving.
Understanding the main economic implications of population ageing.
Becoming aware of the constraints, the possibilities and the challenges of an economy with an ageing population.

- The demography of ageing;
- Consumption and saving at the macroeconomic and at the microeconomic levels;
- The financial markets;
- The impact on public spending: health and social security;
- The participation in the labour market and retirement;
- The economics status and the well-being of the elederly;
- The intergenerational transfers.
