Objectives
This course unit aims to present students with global perspective on the importance of projects in the context of organisations, and the significance of project management as a critical factor in their successful management.
Based on the international standards contained in the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK) from the Project Management Institute, the main objectives of the course are:
- Understand the importance of projects and their importance as a determining factor in the success of companies;
- Give an in-depth overview of the concepts, processes, methods, and most relevant techniques, in order to impart to students the knowledge that is necessary to put these into practice;
- To understand the different areas of knowledge necessary for effective project management from an organisational perspective.

- Technical certifications;
- PM in organisations.
2. PMI Standards. PMBOK v4 overview:
- PM life cycle processes;
- PM areas of knowledge. Project manager skills.
3. Why projects fail:
- Main causes;
- IS/IT projects;
- Critical areas for success.
4. Business case (BC):
- Purpose of the BC;
- Timeframe;
- Key features & benefits;
- Presenting the BC to decision-makers.
5. Project life cycle:
- Start;
- Organise & plan;
- Execution & control;
- Close.
6. Agile PM methods:
- SCRUM introduction;
- SCRUM cycle;
- Organising a SCRUM team;
- Agile planning;
- Contracting agile projects;
- Scalability & integration in SCRUM.
