Deste modo, IAASB emitiu a International Standard on Auditing (ISA) 701 ? Key Audit Matters e o Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB) e reviu, em 2017, a Auditing Standard (AS) 3101 - The Auditor's Report on an Audit of Financial Statements When the Auditor Expresses an Unqualified Opinion.

With globalization and the financial crisis of  2008 arises the need to adjust audit reports in order to make them less standardized and more transparent (PCAOB, 2013; Köhler, Ratzinger-Sakel & Theis, 2016). In this way, IAASB issued the International Standard on Auditing (ISA) 701 ? Key Audit Matters and the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB) and reviewed, in 2017, Auditing Standard (AS) 3101 - The Auditor's Report on an Audit of Financial Statements When the Auditor Expresses an Unqualified Opinion. In both standards, the audit report now contains a section on matters that required special attention from the auditor, being called key audit matters (KAM) at ISA 701 and critical audit matters in AS 3101.
Therefore, in this investigation we tried to analyze the relationship between the sex of the auditor and the number of KAM reported. To this purpose, the study focused on a sample of 69 insurers (31 listed on the stock exchange belonging to the E.U. and 38 with a parent company or branch in Portugal) observed in the period 2017 and 2018.
The results obtained show that the sex of the auditor has no influence on the reporting of the KAMs. Although the literature shows that the sex of auditors has an influence on the quality of the audit, this study shows that in environments subject to great regulation, such as insurance companies, the differences between genders end up being annulled, not influencing the audit report.
