Organizations include and manifest conditions and restrictions from the past, as a reflection from their past experiences, in a so-called process of imprinting. According to the literature, several factors may be involved in the imprinting process in the early stage of a start-up?s life. Based on the assumption that the start-up?s formation is a process of insertion in a relational context, this study seeks to explore the importance of both the founders? role and of the first business relationships in the imprinting process of the company. For this purpose, a longitudinal case study was carried out involving a company operating in the mold industry. To collect data, semi-structured interviews were conducted with the CEO of the company. The main conclusion is that imprinting, in both dimensions of the founder and business relationships, has a closer or immediate nature, in the ability to obtain resources, to pursue opportunities, to share knowledge, and more distant in terms of performance, growth and new markets through the establishment and development of business relationships with other specific companies.
