Given the increase suicide rate in the trans community, it is particularly important to investigate the variables associated with the improvement of their well-being levels. This study aims to investigate the impact that the attitudes of co-workers have on the well-being of trans people.
The inquiry used results from adaptations made to scales validated in previous studies, including attitude scales about the trans community and a multidimensional scale of well-being. Considering that the data were collected during the period of confinement resulting from Covid-19, it was also decided to include a scale relating to the fear of Covid-19 to analyze the possible influence of this particular context on the results.
A sample of 78 trans people was obtained and asked to be identify in an open response. Responses included 25 men, 22 trans men, 8 women, 6 trans women, 6 non-binary people and 3 heterosexuals.
Through factorial analysis, three dimensions of colleagues' attitudes were identified: open-ended orientation, binary orientation and pathology orientation. Using structural equations, it was verified that the open orientation positively affects the four dimensions of well-being (subjective, psychological, social and at work), while the pathology orientation negatively affects the dimensions more related to well-being at work (social well-being and well-being at work).
Binary orientation is not significantly associated with any dimension of well-being. The fear of Covid-19 negatively affects psychological well-being and moderates the relationship between open orientation and two variables of well-being (psychological and subjective).
