    Education

    Lisbeth Rodrigues graduated in History from the University of Minho (Portugal) (2007). She obtained her Ph.D. in History from the same University (2013), with a thesis titled “The Portuguese Hospitals in the Renaissance (1480-1580): The Case of Nossa Senhora do Pópulo, Caldas da Rainha” [http://repositorium.sdum.uminho.pt/handle/1822/27268].

     

    Current Scientific/Professional Activity

    Since October 2013, she has been working at The Research Centre of Economic and Social History, Lisbon School of Economics & Management of the University of Lisbon (GHES/CSG – ISEG, U. Lisboa). She is currently a Junior Research Associate at GHES/CSG – ISEG, U. Lisboa, where she develops a research project entitled “The Institutional Creditors of the Portuguese Crown: The Case of the Misericórdias (16th-18th Centuries)”.

     

    Fields of Research Interest & Research Projects

    Lisbeth’s research interests have spanned through several fields: economic history, financial history, early modern welfare institutions and charity, and early modern law courts. More recently, the Misericórdias (Portuguese lay brotherhoods) and credit markets in Portugal constitute her primary research interests, mainly the financial functions of these brotherhoods as one of the most relevant institutional creditors of private and public credit between the 16th and 18th centuries.

    In this context, she has been involved in several research projects either as a member and research fellow. These include: Sovereign Debt and Private Credit in Portugal (1668-1797)”, PTDC/HAR-HIS/28809/2017 (ongoing), and "Money Supply and Credit Market in Pre-Modern Economies", EXPL/EPH-HIS/1742/2012, both hosted by GHES/CSG.
