Suspension of Enrolment of Students with Unsatisfactory Academic Progress
Suspension of Enrolment of Students with Unsatisfactory Academic Progress
The suspension regime adopted for the 1 st Cycle degrees of ISEG - Lisbon School of Economics and Management results from Law No. 37/2003 of 22 August, which aims to install accountability among students, in that they need to demonstrate an adequate academic performance and thus justify their access to this social benefit which is their education and training. In accordance with Law No. 37/2003, a student is suspended from applying or enroling in the same, or another degree, for the following two semesters.
The current rules and regulations, which entered into force as from 2012-2013, are:
a) Table I applies for those students who were awarded 60 ECTS credits or less than by the end of the 2011-2012 Academic Year;
b) Table II applies for those students who were awarded 60 to 120 ECTS credits by the end of the 2011-2012 Academic Year;
c) Table III applies for those students who were awarded 60 ECTS credits or more by the end of the 2011-2012 Academic Year.
How does this work? In effect, following repeated academic failure, the student's registration at ISEG is suspended for 2 consecutive semesters. However, after this period, the student may return to study at ISEG, but only under the guidelines regulating the application process for re-admission. This type of application is not dependent on the availability of places, and re-admission is therefore guaranteed. After re-admission, courses units already successfully passed before temporary suspension will be credited, and thus the student is able to continue their studies for their undergraduate degree, and will start a new calculation of their years of academic study. At ISEG, students are allowed to study for separate course units during their temporary suspension. These units are credited on request when the student is re-admitted. By implementing this new policy suspension of enrolment, we will be suspending for the first time those students who have not achieved the required academic progress during the current academic year (ECTS credits).
