Dear Students,
I hope you're all safe and sound.
These are difficult days for you, but also for me - having to make choices and set priorities when ideal and perfect solutions are not attainable. The information I bring you today is the result of deep reflection by me and my team, after listening to many relevant people, like you. Even so, there is always an element of frustration in this process - mainly due to the current circumstances that limit our options. I appeal to your understanding and solidarity. We are doing our best.
Regarding the Exams for the current semester, I would like to update the following information:
1. The Special Season Exams which were initially scheduled for March 2021, will take place in the summer, between August 30 and September 10, hopefully in person.
2. The Grade Improvement Exams of the curricular units for the first semester of 2020-21 will take place in the summer, between August 30 and September 10, hopefully in person.
3. The evaluations (Appeal Season) of the first semester of 2020-21 of the doctoral programs will operate in a distance format for the period that was originally planned.
4. Regarding Examination Period of Appeal for the curricular units of the first semester of 2020-21, for bachelor's and master's degrees:
a. The following groups of students will have access to All Appeal Period exams in February:
- Erasmus students enrolled in the first semester of 202021 who did not pass in the Normal Season;
- Students who have been prevented from taking exams in the Normal Season for covid19 reasons that have been justified and duly verified by our Academic Services;
- Undergraduate students who are finalists in the current semester (i.e. undergraduate students enrolled in the 3rd year who can immediately complete their degree if they pass these curricular units in the 1st semester).
- NOTE: In the following links (for bachelor's and master's exams), we identify the curricular units to which all students have access in February (in white); and the curricular units to which only the students identified in this point 4.a. have access in February (in yellow), while other students will only have access to these Appeal Exams in July.

5.Online Exams: The February 20201 Appeal Exams will be held online and students will have their cameras turned on if their teachers so indicate. Before the exams, each curricular unit will inform its students of the procedures to be followed.
6. Oral exams - online: In order to improve the credibility of the assessment system for the February 2021 exams: (i) teachers may hold oral exams instead of written exams, if they wish. (ii) Even if there are written exams (as usual), teachers may call any and all students for an additional oral exam and performance in this exam may be decisive in deciding the final grade. (iii) These oral exams may take place during the week of February 8-12.
7. Precedence for the 2nd Semester: if a curricular unit in the 1st semester does not allow all students access to its February appeal period, the precedence system will not apply in the second semester of 2020-21, if that curricular unit gives precedence to other curricular units in the second semester. In other words, in such cases, it will be possible for a student to register for the most advanced course in the second semester without having passed the course that gives it precedence.
8. Equipment: Anyone who has a special problem with equipment (pc, camera / smartphone) or internet access, please contact gabineteadministrador@iseg.ulisboa.pt on Wednesday, January 27 and explain your situation.
9. Adjustments to the Second Semester Calendar: I would like to take this opportunity to inform you that we have made changes to the second semester calendar and the second semester exam period, in order to better accommodate the recommendations of the Government and the Rector of the University of Lisbon. We hope to start the second semester in a distance format and keep up with the evolution of the pandemic. The main changes are:
- Classes start on Monday, February 15th;
- we don't have a school break at Easter;
- mid-term evaluation week is not considered;
- classes end on May 14, followed by a two-week break before the 2nd semester exam period. Finally, there is a two-week break before the July exams for the 1st semester curricular units that are not open to all students in February.
Here's the general outline:
