09 Nov 2023 from 14.00 to 17.00
ISEG

Would you like to take part in the next practical mini-forest workshop?

On November 9, between 2pm and 5pm, the second workshop of the ISEG mini-forest will be held, facilitated by researcher Oriana Rainho Brás (SOCIUS/CSG/ISEG) and biologist António Alexandre (FCUL/2Adapt).

Admission is free, subject to pre-registration on this LINK.

Following on from the work begun on October 25, we will be working on the mini-forest designbased on the principles of the Miyawaki method applied to urban forests.

How do we imagine the ISEG mini-forest? Which humans and more than humans will live in the forest and what needs do they have? How will we organize the space and what structures are needed? We will answer these questions in a creative, ecological and participatory way to create a space that is inclusive, connects with nature and people, and is suited to the needs and desires of the ISEG university community. The invitation is open to all interested parties and participation is free, subject to register here.

The mini-forest workshops are part of the TERRARE-research-action project for social and ecological regeneration, coordinated by researcher Oriana Rainho Brás (SOCIUS/CSG/ISEG) with the collaboration of biologist António Alexandre (FCUL and 2Adapt). Valorsul-Valorização e Tratamento de Resíduos Sólidos das Regiões de Lisboa e do Oeste, SA. is a partner in the project, supplying organic compost to enrich the soil.

Urban mini-forests can be as small as a tennis court, where we densely plant dozens of native species, imitating the structure of a mature forest. This configuration stimulates the growth of plants that support each other, accelerating the process of natural succession. Community participation is essential for the creation and care of the mini-forest. This is a practical and sensitive way of learning and acting for personal, social, and ecological well-being in the city. We invite you to take part!
