{"id":51186,"date":"2024-09-30T14:47:51","date_gmt":"2024-09-30T14:47:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.iseg.ulisboa.pt\/?post_type=event&#038;p=51186"},"modified":"2024-10-15T13:38:26","modified_gmt":"2024-10-15T13:38:26","slug":"commemorating-the-centenary-of-the-birth-of-professor-bento-murteira","status":"publish","type":"event","link":"https:\/\/www.iseg.ulisboa.pt\/en\/event\/commemorating-the-centenary-of-the-birth-of-professor-bento-murteira\/","title":{"rendered":"Celebration of the centenary of the birth of Professor Bento Murteira"},"content":{"rendered":"<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading has-iseg-red-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-8927481bb9bc42f9947d8ec3370bc769\"><strong>This year marks the <strong>centenary<\/strong> of the birth of Professor <strong>Bento Jos\u00e9 Ferreira Murteira<\/strong>, a personality who profoundly marked the emergence of the subject of Probability and Statistics in Portugal in the last century. <\/strong><\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Bento Murteira left us a unique legacy that cannot be remembered enough and undeniably deserves a place in the History of Applied Mathematics and Statistics in Portugal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For this reason, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.spestatistica.pt\/en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Portuguese Statistical Society<\/a> (SPE) and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.iseg.ulisboa.pt\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Institute of Economics and Management<\/a> (ISEG), in conjunction with the <a href=\"https:\/\/cemapre.iseg.ulisboa.pt\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Centre for Applied Mathematics for Forecasting and Economic Decision Making<\/a> (CEMAPRE) and the <a href=\"https:\/\/ceaul.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Centre for Statistics and Applications<\/a> (CEAUL), decided to mark this date by holding an event on the anniversary on the <strong>15th November, 2024<\/strong>, which will take place in <strong>ISEG's Sal\u00e3o Nobre Great Hall<\/strong>, from 16.30 onwards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Admission is free and prior registration is requested <a href=\"https:\/\/forms.office.com\/e\/n4kGJ8KpWN\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">on this LINK<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A new edition of the book entitled <em>Statistics: Inference and Decision<\/em>will be launched during the event. This book, which was first published in 1988 by the Imprensa Nacional-Casa da Moeda National Mint , is now out of print.
