{"id":51240,"date":"2024-10-02T14:13:58","date_gmt":"2024-10-02T14:13:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.iseg.ulisboa.pt\/?post_type=event&#038;p=51240"},"modified":"2024-10-02T14:14:46","modified_gmt":"2024-10-02T14:14:46","slug":"iseg-research-seminar-andreas-pick","status":"publish","type":"event","link":"https:\/\/www.iseg.ulisboa.pt\/en\/event\/iseg-research-seminar-andreas-pick\/","title":{"rendered":"ISEG Research Seminar | Andreas Pick"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The next ISEG Research Seminar will take place on the 9th October, and will count with the presence of <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/ap236.github.io\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Andreas Pick<\/a><\/strong>, from the University of Rotterdam, who will present the paper entitled \"<strong>Forecasting with panel data: Estimation uncertainty versus parameter heterogeneity<\/strong>&#8220;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The seminar will take place from 13.00 to 14.00 in Lecture Theatre 3 (Quelhas, 4th Floor).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Free admission.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Abstract:<\/strong><br>We provide a comprehensive examination of the predictive accuracy of panel forecasting methods based on individual, pooling, fixed effects, and Bayesian estimation, and propose optimal weights for forecast combination schemes. We consider linear panel data models, allowing for weakly exogenous regressors and correlated heterogeneity. We quantify the gains from exploiting panel data and demonstrate how forecasting performance depends on the degree of parameter heterogeneity, whether such heterogeneity is correlated with the regressors, the goodness of fit of the model, and the cross-sectional (N) and time (T) dimensions.
