ISEG celebrates the 125th anniversary of the birth of Bento de Jesus Cara\u00e7a with the opening of an exhibition dedicated to his life and work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mathematician, professor, science communicator and an unavoidable figure in Portuguese cultural and civic life, Bento de Jesus Cara\u00e7a (1901-1948) guided his life by his commitment to the democratization of knowledge and his courageous intervention in the society of his time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The exhibition is organized into four thematic blocks - Life<\/strong>, Work<\/strong>, Citizenship<\/strong> and Science<\/strong> - and brings together photographs and documents from Bento de Jesus Cara\u00e7a's estate, deposited at the M\u00e1rio Soares and Maria Barroso Foundation, as well as materials collected in the ISEG archives. It seeks to cover his career of cultural and scientific intervention, particularly in the context of ISC-ISCEF and the dissemination of knowledge, without forgetting his civic and political commitment, including the episode of his resignation from the University.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The opening session will feature institutional speeches, followed by a musical performance by a choral group of Cantes Alentejanos. A brief catalog of the exhibition will also be available, with texts by various authors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
