Ever since the first decades of the last century, several European composers have been seduced by North-American jazz, especially in France.

This influence is manifested in pieces by Milhaud and Ravel, and also by other lesser-known composers, most of which are for brass instruments, such as the trombone.

This programme brings together pieces by Eugène Bozza and Jacques Castérède, alternating with two more recent ones, which also result from stylistic contaminations – The Sonata for Bass Trombone by the Swiss composer and saxophonist, Daniel Schnyder, which dates back to 1996, and also the the Braziliano Concert by the American trumpeter and composer James Stephenson, who also made his debut in 2006, on the Caribbean island of St. Bartholomew.
