About the exhibition:
It is well known that learning the name of something gives us a certain power, as we can mention it regardless of its actual presence. However, it can also be said that art shows us the instability of this mechanism, inviting us to understand the gap between a sign and what it evokes. It is through such an exercise of estrangement of language and also of visualness that Anabela Mota shows us what colour is blue in this exhibition entitled Kyaneos. Only with difficulty can we translate the word kyaneos as being dark blue, which originates in Greek antiquity, from which is derived the word cyan, which gives rise to the naming of the shade of blue that constitutes one of the three subtractive primary colours (…).
