Chairperson of Raríssimas – the National Association for Rare Mental Deficiencies.
Studied Philosophy and Business Management, and then in 1993 became involved with the rare disease cause, and since then has led various associations in this area.
Founded Raríssimas in 2002 – the National Association for Rare Mental Deficiencies, and has been its chairperson ever since.
Was also responsible for the creation of the National Plan for Rare Diseases, in partnership with the Ministry of Health.
Has been invited to sit on the Board of various international associations for rare diseases and recently hosted the II Ibero-American Congress for Rare Mental Deficiencies, which was held at the Casa dos Marcos and included the presence of Queen Letícia of Spain, and the First Lady of Portugal, Maria Cavaco Silva.
RARÍSSIMAS – the National Association for Rare Mental Deficiencies was founded in April of 2002, with the aim of helping patients, family members and long-lasting and recent friends who have all had first-hand experience of rare diseases.
" We exist for rare people, who have rare needs " became the motto of the Association, and this has generated a real awareness amongst the Portuguese population about the difficulties faced by these families.
Nowadays, Raríssimas sponsors and regularly organises institutional campaigns to encounter partners and funding for its diverse activities.
This is a rare example of a successful entrepreneurial social project, which not only has an impact on society, but is also economically viable.
