Business Finance (1 º Sem 2019/2020)

The grading system consists in two group assignments and an individual one.

The group assignment consists in solving two case studies. One about the investment decision and the other on financing decision. You are expected to discuss the case in class and deliver to me a written report with your solution and the respective Excel file. The written report can be delivered at a later date (at most February, 16). You will have limited time during the classes to discuss it with your colleagues. Nevertheless, since the two cases are long, I strongly advise you to read them before the classes start. To access them, you need to log in to Aquila, go to the webpage of this unit, then select the tab “More” and click on Case Studies. During the classes I will provide you additional data and the questions you have to answer.

The individual assignment consists in a research proposal on some topic in finance at your choice. On Aquila you will find a template with some instructions about what you are expected to present. To access them, you need to log in to Aquila, go to the webpage of this unit, then select the tab “More” and click on Individual Assignments.

The final grade will be the result of the following formula

Final Grade = 25%xCS₁+25%xCS₂+50%xIA

In the formula CS₁ stands for Case Study 1, CS₂ stands for Case Study 2 and IA stands for Individual Assignment.

Keep in mind that plagiarism will not be accepted, whatsoever.

Since, this is a doctoral course, the classes will be demanding, and I expect you to deliver outstanding reports to all assignments. I also expect you to participate in any discussion that take place during the classes.
