Fixed Income Products and Markets (2 º Sem 2019/2020)

Dear Students,

We will meet in Teams at 8:40 (cohort S42) and 8:45 (cohort S12) for a general overview of the Exam Logistics.

The exam will start at 9:00.

All students need to maintain their computer cameras on during the whole exam.

In order to give all students an accurate notion of the procedures that are going to be followed, we provide below a general description of the process:

Part I:

This part of the exam will consist of two separate groups (first group to be solved in 30 minutes; second group also to be solved in 20 minutes )

·        Group 1:

o   Each student will get by mail (each student’s ISEG mail, that is uploaded in the Fixed Income Products and Markets File), one pdf file with the question and one Excel File with the main inputs for the solution of the problem;

o   Students will need to work inside the Excel file, without copying or moving the contents already included;

o   Each student will upload the Excel file (with the name changed in a way that will always start with student number, i.e. student number_fipm_exam_part 1; group I) with his solution in Aquila, using the normal procedure used to submit any kind of academic work (naturally, inside the Fixed Income Products and Markets area, and the subarea related to Exam I, Part 1).

·        Group 2:

o   After finishing Part 1, each student will get by mail (the ISEG mail, that is uploaded in the Fixed Income Products and Markets File), one Word file with two questions;

o   Students will need to work inside the Word file;

o   Each student will upload the file (with the name changed in a way that will always start with student number, i.e. student number_fipm_exam_part 1; group II), naturally, inside the Fixed Income Products and Markets area, and the subarea related to Exam I, Part 2.

·        Part II:

o   It will be accessed in two separate groups of multiple choice questions (each one to be solved in 25 minutes). There will be no penalty for wrong answers.

o   The multiple choice groups will be made available and must be solved through the Aquila platform.

o  The multiple choice groups will be made available in a sequential way. It expected that the first multiple choice group will start at 10h00 and finish at 10h25. The second multiple choice group is expected to start at 10h30 and finish at 10h55.  

o   You can use the formulae sheet that is available on the UCI page.

o   You will need a calculator and paper to solve some problems to be able to answer some questions.

o   Students will need to work inside the Excel file, without copying or moving the contents already included;

o   Students will need to work inside the Word file;

o   Each student will upload the file (name might be changed if students wishes to do so) with his solution in Aquila, using the normal procedure used to submit any kind of academic work (naturally, inside the Fixed Income Products and Markets area, and the subarea related to Exam I, Part 3).

·        Part II:

o   It will be accessed in three separate groups of multiple choice questions (the first two to be solved in 15 minutes each and the third to be solved in 20 minutes).

o   The multiple choice groups will be made available and must be solved through the Aquila platform.

o   The multiple choice groups will be made available in a sequential way. It expected that the first multiple choice group starts at 10h20 and finish at 10h35. The second multiple choice group is expected to start at 10h40 and finish at 10h55 and the last multiple choice group is expected to start at 11h00 and will end at 11h20.  

o   You can use the formulae sheet that is available on the UCI page.

o   You will need a calculator and paper to solve some problems to be able to answer some questions.

As mentioned in this week's lectures, in order to cover for the lectures lost in the week in which ISEG determine the closure of the facilities, we will have the following compensation lectures this week:

. On Thursday, March 2, at 19:00 (cohort S42);

. On Friday, March 3, at 19:00 (cohort S12).

Please have with you paper versions of Problem Sets 2 and 3.

Dear Students,

The following lectures will present significant challenges to all of us.

For this week's lecture, I would like to ask you to have available:

    . 1 computer to deal with the examples/exercises that we are going to solve in Excel (please have at hand the file "fipm_ex_ps1_v1_stu_clean" that you can download from the course website);

    . Another computer/tablet/mobile phone to attend the lecture in Teams;

    . A printed version of Problem Set 1.
