    Teaching - Scientific Supervision, and Research Areas:

    • Since the middle of 1970s more than fifteen courses have been taught, at undergraduate and post-graduate levels (the great majority of them under the responsibility of the Department of Economics - ISEG/UTL) most notably in the fields of basic economics, applied economics, international economic relations, and European economics and policies.
    • Research areas: international economics and international economic relations; world economy, international trade and investment, and trade policy; regional and global economic integration; Portuguese and European Economies; economics of reforms and transition processes, social policies.
    • Direction of  six PhD and about thirty Master Dissertations in the areas just mentioned above, the great majority of them have already been completed.
    • Participation in more than fifty academic jurys  (Associate Professor, PhD, Master, and Equivalence), at ISEG/UTL, and other Portuguese Universities.
    • Coordinator of the research line at CEDIN/FCT: "New Trends in the World Economy; Trade and Investment Policies and Strategies", in process of institutionalization.
    • Scientific advisor of a research center (NECE - University of Beira Interior). Member of the Scientific Committee of the IASI - International Institute for Asian Studies and Interchange. ~

    Coodination and Participation in Research Projects

    Participation in a large number of Portuguese, European, and international projects (R&D, scientific cooperation and advisory), sometimes with the responsibility of direction of the research; we mention afterwards, some of the most recent cases:

    a) Coordinator of the project "The New Relations between Portugal and Brazil in a Context of Globalization and Regional Integration: Trends and Strategies", under which smaller research projects are being carried out, particularly in view of publications, CEDIN/ISEG, 2001-2002.

    b) Participation in several stages of the project "The Tempus Phare European Project # 12556 Network" led by the Center for Public Affairs Studies of Budapest University of Economic Sciences, 1999-2001.

    c) Participation in the International Working Group on "Jurisdictional Regulation of the Economy in the European Dictatorships" in the frame of Max Planck Institute (Frankfurt), 1999-2000.

    d) Member of the Working Group  that produced the Report "Impact on Portugal of EU Enlargement to Central and Eastern European Countries", (CEGE/ISEG, 1998-99).

    e) Member of the Working Group  that made proposals for the restructuring of the Portuguese Customs in the context of the European Union (CEDIN/Ministry of Finance, 1996-1997);

    f) Member of the Working Group  that made methodological proposals for monitoring the competitiveness of Portuguese economy through a periodical publication (ADISEGI/Banco de Fomento Exterior, Lisbon 1996-1997);

    g) Participation in the project "L'intégration entre pays inégalement développés dans la régionalisation de l'économie mondiale. Une analyse comparative et prospective" as responsible for the part "L'expérience de l'intégration des pays européens les moins développés dans la Communauté européenne" (Commissariat Général du Plan, France, 1995-1996).
