New schedule for the next quizzes

Good evening,
I hope everyone is okay.
I would like to postpone our next quizzes for the 3rd and the 17th of December, since I need one more class to finish Part 3 of our syllabus. If anyone has an impediment to this change, please tell me as soon as possible.
Thanks for your understanding!

Class 19th November - further informations

Hello everyone,

Hope you're all having a nice weekend.

For our next class, I have uploaded the 8 research papers that are going to be addressed and also a file "Papers, presents and discussants" with all the information.

Taking into account the number of papers and the need to both present and discuss each one, I strongly suggest that each presentation tooks 10 minutes and each discussion tooks 5 minutes. You may have a larger number of slides but during the presentation and discussion you should focus only on the main features. It is important that we all respect the schedule to be possible to hear from you all. After the class, you should send me your handouts (by email) during Wednesday.

Thank you and see you on Wednesday!

Class 19th November

Good evening,

About our class scheduled for the 19th November, I hereby inform you that:

  • Each student must present one paper (chosen by each one of you) and discuss one other paper (allocated by me);
  • You have to send me as soon as possible one research paper that you found interesting so I can choose a discussant for it;
  • You are all free to arrange other colleague to discuss your paper, building pairs of presenter-discussant. If not, I will choose the discussants among the presenters.

The presentation of the paper should follow the following structure:

1) Title of the article, name of the authors and affiliation (university to which they belong), journal and year of publication;

2) Main purpose of the study - which research question(s) the authors intend to answer; what is the motivation and relevance of the study

3) Literature review - what are the theoretical grounds/theories, what are the main conclusions/results of the previous studies regarding similar research topics;

4) Methodology - processes and methods used to collect and analyze data that will support the study and that will allow to answer the research question; distinguish qualitative and quantitative approach;

5) Variables tested and how they were measured (eg performance measured by profitability of sales)

6) Main results and conclusions.

The discussion of the paper should focus on 2 main topics:

  • Strengths and weaknesses of the paper;
  • Suggestions for improvement;
  • Further readings that might have helped the author(s) to improve their work;
  • Pay attention that is not enough to focus on the limitations section included in the paper, you should present your own critical perspetive on the work presented.

Both presenters and discussants must deliver me the handouts of your presentations until the end of the class.

Good Work!
