Objectivos

The course offers an overview of the making of European integration.
It analyzes the founding Treaties of European integration and the political system of the EU.
Then students will have an insight into EU legal principles and the European Court of Justice.
The last part of the course is devoted to the Single Market foundations.

Programa

1. European Integration: From the European Economic Communities to the European Union; Deepening and widening of the EU; The founding Treaties of Rome and Maastricht, and the amending Treaties; Leaving the EU: the Brexit case.

2. The European Union Politics: EU political institutions; The EU decision-making power.

3. The European Union Legal System: Sources of EU law; The EU Court of Justice and judicial review; Fundamental Principles of EU law; Human Rights protection.

4. The Internal Market: Free movement of goods, persons and services; Digital single market.

Metodologia de avaliação

As for regular period there will be a system of continuous assessment. Continuous assessment will be based on class participation, and two written tests.
Class attendance is required for regular period purpose. Those who will miss more than 6 lectures will not be considered for continuous assessment.
Repeat period will consist on a written exam.
In any written test or exam students are allowed to have the EU Treaties.
