Objectivos

The students finishing the course must have learned:
1) how to use statistical methods to extract the relevant information from a data set;
2) how to specify simple probability models in order to explain economic facts and to estimate and test the crucial parameters;
3) the fundamental assumptions of the linear regression model for cross-section data;
5) how to develop simple and adequate econometric studies for cross-section data;
6) how to use the basic software to apply the studied techniques of statistics and econometrics;
7) the basic knowledge to follow the course of econometrics;

Programa

Statistics
- Sampling distributions and large sample results
- Estimation
- Hypothesis testing
- Nonparametric tests
Econometrics
- Introduction to the linear regression model for cross-sectional data

Metodologia de avaliação

Classes comprise lectures and exercises. Therefore, theoretical models are considered together with examples, exercises and empirical analysis of real data.
The final grade in a scale of 0 to 20 is awarded based on a written examen.
