Objetivos

The course Urban and Regional Economics (URE) provides students with an understanding of the economics of cities and regions.
The course is divided in three parts:
?Part 1 covers the main foundational theories and models explaining the location and spatial distribution of people and activities, and provides a series of international examples to illustrate their main features.
?Part 2 provides students with spatial data analysis techniques and tools which allow mapping and measuring patterns of spatial concentration of economic activities both between and within regions and cities. Students will learn how to use the free and open source spatial data analysis software GeoDa.
?Part 3 addresses some of the main issues relating to the design and implementation of urban and regional economic policy, particularly with respect to housing, transport, and the environment.
