The tourism sector has been growing quite a lot worldwide, Portugal was not an exception, as well as Setúbal.
However, what would a family with children value the most regarding accommodation if we were to add an infrastructure that would suit this segment of market relatively to the already existing accommodation offer in Setúbal?
The tourist profile to study is a tourist with two or more, middle-aged children, middle class and looking for short stays, also known as ?escapadinhas?.
This study aims to characterize a business model that meets the needs of this segment when looking for this kind of stay.
The used methodology was the Lean Startup, created by Ries (2011), it consists in three distinct but dependent phases, Learning, Building and Measuring. These three phases of the Lean Startup cycle were supported by the Business Model Canvas developed by Osterwalder and Yives Pigneur (2010). Through the collected data it was possible to design what may be a business model which fulfils the needs of this specific segment.
The results show that families with two or more children while searching for
accommodation for a short stay value the infrastructure, they prefer hotels over other
types of accommodation.
They are not price sensitive for short term stays, on the other hand, while seeking
accommodation for long term stays, the price is a key-factor.
