Resumo
Within the scope of this internship report, a Power BI dashboard was developed and evaluated to monitor nursing consultations in several functional healthcare units (Unidades Funcionais) of the Regional Health Administration of Centro (ARSC), Portugal. The primary task was to clean raw, Excel-based healthcare data from 16 ACES (Agrupamentos de Centros de Saúde) and transform it into an interactive and visualised platform for decision-making and performance tracking.
The project unified over 14 million consultation records from 2019 to 2024 using Power BI, Power Query, and DAX (Data Analysis Expressions). Several dashboards were designed to represent medical consultation, nursing, vaccination, and demographic data. End-users could filter the data by year, unit, consultation type, and region using interactive slicers, which significantly contributed to data accessibility and operational efficiency.
The result was strategic information on the patterns of healthcare demand, including urgent and planned consultations, as well as service utilisation by age. Data transformation protocols and a bespoke user guide addressed the issues of data inconsistency and user onboarding. Automating the data pipelines, enhancing their governance, and incorporating predictive analytics were recommended.
Generally, the project supported ARSC’s digital transformation strategy because it demonstrated the value of Business Intelligence (BI) in public healthcare, facilitated proactive service planning, and encouraged data-driven decision-making.
