The II International Seminar on Intellectual Property in Portuguese-speaking Countries was held at the ISEG in Lisbon on February 26 and 27, 2010. 
 
II International Seminar on Intellectual Property in Portuguese-speaking CountriesA total of 32 papers were presented by 39 authors, with almost a hundred participants from Portugal, Brazil, Guinea-Bissau, Mozambique, Cape Verde, São Tomé and Princípe, Angola and Macau, as well as universities from the UK, France, the USA and Peru. Representatives from the National Institute of Industrial Property, the World Intellectual Property Organization and the OECD were also present.
 
The aim of this II Seminar was to discuss an agenda on Intellectual Property of common interest to Portuguese-speaking countries and territories. Intellectual Property is a fundamental instrument for regulating access to economically useful knowledge in the contemporary world. Since access to knowledge is a basic condition for economic and social development, a good understanding of Intellectual Property mechanisms is vital for countries seeking to follow a path of rapid growth and technological development based on business strategies centered on innovation. This understanding allows economic agents to define consistent strategies for technological and competitive advancement.
