Synopsis
Like several other convents of female religious orders that appeared in the Madragoa neighborhood, whose name comes from the convent of the "Madres de Goa", the Convent of Santa Brígida das Inglesas, founded at the beginning of the 17th century and later known as the Convento das Inglesinhas, also underwent a series of transformations.
In 1864, the Convent was acquired by the Jesuits, who kept the Colégio de Jesus there until the establishment of the Republic, introducing several extensions during this period, namely the addition of a floor to the entire north-east wing of the detached body of the Colégio's refectory.
After the Republic, it housed the Museum of the Republican Revolution and later the Higher Institute of Commerce, now the ISEG - Higher Institute of Economics and Management.
