Fernando Ramôa Ribeiro re-elected Rector of UTL and three ISEG professors in the rectoral team

2009 Formal SessionThe Rector of the Technical University of Lisbon (UTL), Fernando Ramôa Ribeiro, has been re-elected for a second term (2011/2015).

The General Council met on February 7th and was unanimously re-elected. Fernando Ramôa Ribeiro took up his first mandate as rector of UTL in March 2007.

The Investiture Ceremony of Professor Fernando Ramôa Ribeiro, as Rector of the Technical University of Lisbon (UTL), took place on February 25th at 11 a.m. in the Salão Nobre of the Instituto Superior Técnico.

The position of Vice-Rector of UTL was taken by Professor Helena Margarida Nunes Pereira, Professor Maria da Conceição da Cunha e Vasconcelos Peleteiro and Professor António Maria Palma dos Reis.

Professor Vitor Fernando da Conceição Gonçalves, Professor Nuno Paulo de Sousa Arrobas Crato, Professor José Manuel Fragoso Alves Diniz, Professor João Miguel da Costa Sousa and Professor João Manuel Pinheiro Cachopo were elected as Pro-Rectors.

Graduated in 1968 in Chemical-Industrial Engineering from the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto, Ramôa Ribeiro has been a full professor at the Instituto Superior Técnico since 1988.

Between 1984 and 1987 he was vice-chairman of the IST Board of Directors and between 1989 and 1997 he was a member of NATO's Scientific Commission and governor of the European Union's Joint Research Center (1989-1996). He was vice-rector of the Technical University of Lisbon between 1999 and 2002, when he became president of the Foundation for Science and Technology. He was also decorated by the President of the Republic of France with several Orders. He has published around 200 articles in international journals and ten books.
