ISEG joins the Summer in Tech initiative - July 2011

summer at UTLVerão na Técnica is an initiative of the Technical University of Lisbon, aimed at students in the 10th and 11th grades of secondary school, giving you the opportunity to get to know and experience the rhythm and spirit of academic life.

UTL, which is composed of 7 of the best and oldest schools in the country, in the areas of Veterinary, Agronomy, Economics and Management, Engineering, Social and Political Sciences, Sports and Architecture, has created a program full of activities to let you know what is done here and maybe help you decide what direction you are going to take in your life.

There are seven programs to choose from and many scientific, recreational and sporting activities during the first week (04 to 08 July) and the second week (11 to 15 July).

In each School, a group of teachers has prepared a complete plan of activities - lectures, experiments, visits - to show you the basic knowledge, working methods and practical tasks related to the courses taught at UTL.

Every day, you will be accompanied by students from the University who will help you solve your challenges, answer your questions and take you around the facilities, showing you what university life is like.

We have prepared a set of activities that will allow you to discover the different Schools of UTL, the courses they offer, the research that is developed there and the science that is produced for the benefit of society. For one week, you can be a real veterinarian, agronomist, economist/manager, engineer, social science specialist, political scientist, athlete or architect.

On the last day, you receive a diploma for your participation.

HIGHER INSTITUTE OF ECONOMICS AND MANAGEMENT
What does it mean to be an economist? and a manager?

Businesses are like living organisms: they are born, grow, get sick and also die. They need constant attention from experts to ensure that their life is healthy. And intervene when necessary, with the right tools. The manager is the specialist who has this function. But companies are the living cells of an economy, in which consumers and the state also participate. When we put them all together, and see how they work, we have added problems: of managing economies. This week, we'll look at how it all works: economies, politics and the crises that so plague people and politicians today, the management of organizations, where being a leader is more important than being a boss, markets and entrepreneurs, where those who excel are the most creative, innovative and risk-taking. We will listen to experts, watch movies and visit companies. In short, we will see how an economy works. And what it means to be an economist and manager in that economy.

We look forward to seeing you in your chosen week!
