Alberto da Ponte is the new Chairman of the Board of Directors of RTP

Alberto da Ponte

Alberto da Ponte, former ISEG student and president of the ISEG Alumni Association, is the new chairman of the RTP Board of Directors.

With a degree in finance from the Instituto Superior de Ciências Económicas and a finance degree from Harvard Business School, Alberto da Ponte began his life (as a brand director) in the corporate world of what later became the Unilevever - Jerónimo Martins partnership, where he remained until the 90s.

During his time at the former Lever Industries Portugal, the manager worked not only in Portugal, but also in Belgium, Spain and Malaysia (via Unilever). The interregnum took place during the first five years in which he was CEO of Cadbury Schweppes Portugal. In the following five years he was director of Unilever Lever Elida Portugal.

The decade began as director of Unilever Bestfoods Fima (Portugal), where he was until 2004, when he became head of SCC, then still under Scottish & Newcastle. Four years later, the owner of Sagres and Luso passed into the hands of Heineken, which kept Alberto da Ponte. That same year the manager managed to sell more beer than the "historic" leader of the Portuguese market, Unicer, owner of Super Bock and already led by António Pires de Lima. In addition to being a manager, Alberto da Ponte often took on associative positions: both in the Portuguese association of advertisers, the Portuguese brewery association, and the European counterpart, the Brewers of Europe.

Alberto da Ponte was replaced last April by Ronald den Elzen at the head of SCC, even before the mandate ended. At the time he told Negócios that he saw his replacement as CEO and the assignment of "new functions in the 'Heineken Western Europe Region', reporting directly to the president in the development of the Dutch brewer's strategy for the Horeca channel (hotels, restaurant and cafes) as "clearly a promotion".
