Death of António Borges

It is with intense sadness that the School says goodbye to one of its illustrious former students, António Mendo Castel Branco Borges.

He graduated in Economics in 1971 / 1972 with a grade point average of 16. He was one of the best students on his course and also on all the courses at ISEG, and is on its Honor Roll, a list dedicated to the best students on all the degree courses completed at this school since it was founded in 1911.

A man of controversial but coherent ideas, the controversy he created with some of his proposals or statements did not fail to serve academia and society because of the explicit and clear way in which he presented them, and knowing that the controversy he generated would result in a society that was more enlightened, informed and certain about the progress it wanted to make.

António Borges had always recognized ISEG as his basic training school. On May 23, 2012, the day he returned to the School once again to receive his diploma as a member of the Honor Roll, he told me how pleased he was, saying that "I wouldn't have missed that moment for the world, because it was  once in a lifetime!"

It is this life that loses him, and it seems to us that the time he devoted to it was too little, because much more was expected with the quality we recognized in him.

ISEG sends its deepest condolences to the family.
