Death of Professor Manuel Jacinto Nunes

Today, July 14, ISEG was informed of the disappearance of its illustrious professor, Professor Manuel Jacinto Nunes.  

This is news that deeply affects ISEG's academic community.
A former student, he graduated from ISEG (ISCEF) and began his teaching career in 1948. Jacinto Nunes is credited with playing a pioneering role in the introduction of new subjects in Economics and Finance courses in Portugal. He was Director of the School between 1968 and 1970. He retired in 1996.
Profoundly knowledgeable about the Portuguese economy and with great and varied contributions to academia, Professor Jacinto Nunes' life went far beyond his academic career.  

He was President of the Academy of Sciences, Minister of Finance, in which position he negotiated and implemented the first stabilization plan with the IMF, President of the Commission for European Integration, Governor of the Bank of Portugal and President of Caixa Geral de Depósitos.

ISEG expresses its deep sorrow at the death of its illustrious Professor, and extends its deepest condolences to his family.

The body will be taken to the Estrela Basilica tomorrow at 16:30.
The mass will be held on Wednesday, July 16, at 9:30 a.m., after which the funeral will take place at the Prazeres Cemetery.
