Dr. António de Almeida, the first president of the ISEG School Board and honorary doctor by ISEG / Technical University of Lisbon, passed away.

António de Almeida was born in 1937. He graduated in Economics from the Faculty of Economics of the University of Porto in 1961 and held several important positions in public and private institutions.

He was a director and vice-president of the Instituto de Crédito de Moçambique (1971 to 1974), governor and president of Banco de Angola (1974 to 1978) and non-executive director of The Bank of Lisbon and South Africa. He was Secretary of State for the Treasury between 1978 and 1980 and between 1983 and 1985.

Later, he was president of the Union of Portuguese Banks, consultant to the Bank of Portugal, and consultant to the Associação Industrial Portuense.

At EDP, he was Chairman of the Board of Directors (between 1996 and 1998), Chairman of the Audit Committee (2003 to 2004), Chairman of the General and Supervisory Board, and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the EDP Foundation, a position he held at the time of his death.
