Photo Report | Portugal Unequal: Income Inequality and Poverty

The conference " Unequal Portugal: Income Inequality and Poverty", a session organized to present a study carried out by Professor Carlos Farinha (ISEG) for the Francisco Manuel dos Santos Foundation (FFMS). The study is entitled "Income Inequality and Poverty in Portugal: Social Consequences of the Adjustment Program".

The conference assessed the social consequences of one of the deepest crises Portugal has experienced in recent decades. It also analyzed the measures adopted by the public authorities.   

The evolution of household incomes and the main indicators of inequality and poverty over the period 2009 to 2014 in Portugal was also addressed. And, the sectors of the population most penalized by the crisis and the policies implemented in that period were identified. 

The session was attended by Professor Manuel Mira Godinho (vice-president of ISEG and president of the Scientific Council), Jaime Gama (President of FFMS), Michael Förster (principal administrator of the OECD Social Policy Division), Professor Carlos Farinha Rodrigues (professor at ISEG and coordinator of the study), Manuel Villaverde Cabral (ICS - Ulisboa), Pedro Pita Barros (coordinator of the Social Policies area at FFMS) and Raquel Albuquerque (moderator, Expresso newspaper).
