RESILIENCE AND SUSTAINABILITY OF TOURIST DESTINATIONS
, organized by SOCIUS/CSG, ISEG's Research Center for Economic and Organizational Sociology.

2 PM to 5 PM.
PROGRAMME
- Introduction to the concepts of resilience and sustainability in tourist destinations;
- Vulnerability and disturbance factor assessment with case study analysis;
- Methodologies for developing resilience and sustainable tourism plans;
- Practical application of knowledge with development of a resilience and sustainability plan.
OBJECTIVES
Filling a gap in skills in planning for resilience and sustainability. On completion of this course participants will be able to:
- Critically discuss key concepts related to resilience and sustainable tourism;
- Identify vulnerabilities and factors disrupting resilience in tourist destinations;
- Develop resilience and sustainable tourism strategic plans based on robust analysis methodologies (e.g. Resilience Alliance methodology).
EDUCATIONAL CONTENT
The curriculum of this course is based on research and case studies in this area, aiming to develop in the participants solid skills, critical and innovative spirit, knowledge and experience regarding the development of strategic plans for resilience and sustainable tourism.
Regarding the learning methodologies, special emphasis will be given to the viewing of thematic videos, development of group exercises to apply key concepts, as well as analysis of case studies that promote an informal but critical discussion among participants. Some of the materials used in class (e.g. videos, papers, etc.) may be taught in English.
TRAINER
Ana Rita Sampaio holds a PhD in Sustainable Tourism from the International Centre for Responsible Tourism, Leeds Metropolitan University (now Leeds Beckett University), in the United Kingdom, and a degree in Environmental Engineering from the Faculty of Sciences and Technology of the Universidade Nova de Lisboa. She also completed a post-doctoral research at the Center for Geographical Studies of IGOT - University of Lisbon, under the European Project SECOA - Solutions for Environmental Contrasts in Coastal Areas: global change, human mobility and sustainable urban development.

This course is especially designed for tourism professionals, municipal and other local staff, tour operators, as well as university graduates or holders of relevant professional curriculum, and others interested in resilience, sustainable tourism and environmental and social responsibility.
CERTIFICATION
All participants who complete the training will be issued a certificate by SOCIUS/ISEG-Ulisboa.
