Dr. Mário Machungo dies

It is with regret that I inform you that Dr. Mário Machungo, a distinguished former student of ISEG, then ISCEF, passed away today.

ISEG pays tribute to him, publicly recognizing his special distinction as a student, as a member of our Advisory Board and as Minister and Prime Minister of Mozambique between 1975 and 1986.

Dr. Mário Machungo was distinguished at ISEG, by the Alumni Association, as Alumnus of the Year 2018, in recognition of the excellence of his career. About Mário Machungo, says his course colleague Eduardo Catroga, "Former student of the 1960s, generated in our School friendships and complicities for life, having been awarded the career award in the area of Political and Social Economy."

On behalf of ISEG, I extend my deepest condolences to the family of Dr. Mário Machungo. ISEG also suffers today an important loss.

On a personal note, as the daughter of a course colleague of Dr. Mário Machungo, I praise all the professional and human qualities that his colleagues and friends have always recognized in him. And I remember, with nostalgia, the affectionate way we met here at ISEG in 2018 and the emotional way he embraced his colleagues.

The wake will begin on the 18th at 3:00 p.m. in the Cathedral of the Lusitanian Church - Parish of St. Paul (Rua das Janelas Verdes, 32, 1200-691 Lisbon).

The religious celebration will take place on Wednesday, February 19 at 11:00 a.m..
