Springer publishes new book by Professor Joaquim Sarmento

The Renegotiations of Public Private Partnerships in Transportation recently published by Springer, presents the theoretical basis for understanding renegotiations in the context of Public Private Partnerships (PPPs). In addition, it analyzes a set of case studies of PPP renegotiations in the context of the transport sector.

What determines PPP renegotiations? Why are some projects more likely to renegotiate? What are the outcomes of renegotiations? How can the efficiency of renegotiation processes be improved? Empirical evidence suggests that most PPPs are renegotiated over the life of the contract, with public-private consequences that are often asymmetric. The literature on PPP renegotiations focuses mainly on the contract aspect and the determinants of renegotiations. However, the management and conduct of the renegotiation process are also key aspects of this topic. This book seeks to contribute to this gap in the literature, through several country cases and case-studies of renegotiated PPPs.
