17th BIEN Congress: The Implementation of a Basic Income

Associação Rendimento Básico Incondicional - Portugal, in partnership with the Centre for Ethics, Politics and Society (CEPS) of the University of Minho, the Higher Institute of Economics and Management (ISEG), the Centre for Research in European, Economic, Financial and Tax Law (CIDEEFF), both of the University of Lisbon, the Centre for History d'Aquém e d'Além-Mar (CHAM), of the New University of Lisbon, the PAN party, and the Unconditional Basic Income Europe (UBIE) movement, are organizing the following events September 25-27 of 2017, the 17th BIEN Congress - The Implementation of a Basic Income.

Unconditional basic income (UBI), as a potentially fair and realistic policy, is currently attracting public attention. This is becoming apparent as major political parties in Europe are adopting the UBI as one of their policy objectives.
Within the general theme of this Congress, the different aspects of basic income policies will be discussed.

In addition to the various national and international experts, the congress plans to bring together representatives of political parties, civil society, business entities, among others, to discuss a cross-cutting concern for all regarding growing social inequalities, structural unemployment and the sustainability of Social Security, both in Europe and worldwide. In this way, the event aims to bring together various critical voices in the search for socially innovative solutions and alternatives.
