Since the first decades of the last century, several European composers have been seduced by American jazz, especially in France.
This influence can be seen in works by Milhaud and Ravel, but also by other composers who are less well known to the general public, especially when it comes to brass repertoire, such as the trombone.
This program includes works by Eugène Bozza and Jacques Castérède, alternated with two others that are much more recent, but which are also the result of stylistic contaminations. The Sonata for Bass Trombone by Swiss composer and saxophonist Daniel Schnyder dates from 1996. American trumpeter and composer James Stephenson premiered the Concerto in 2006 on the Caribbean island of Saint Barthélemy.
