CONCERT | Orquestra Metropolitana de Lisboa | Ludwig Van Beethoven

04 Apr from 19:00 to 21:00
Caixa Geral de Depósitos Auditorium

On Tuesday, April 4, we will have an excellent concert provided by the Lisbon Metropolitan Orchestra, based on Ludwig Van Beethoven, at the Caixa Geral de Depósitos Auditorium (Ed. Quelhas, 2nd floor).

When he moved to Vienna in 1792 at the age of 21, Ludwig van Beethoven built his reputation on his qualities as a piano virtuoso. It was only gradually that his compositions became recognized. Around the same time, he was also attending violin lessons, surely with the intention of getting to know in detail this fundamental instrument for orchestral practice. His only (and monumental) Concerto for Violin and Orchestra would only be composed in 1806. Before that, there were several pieces that pointed the way. Examples are nine of his ten Sonatas for Violin and Piano (the tenth is later). The first three date from 1797/1798 and already allow us to guess the expressive colossus of heroic propensity envisioned by the German musician. There are two other works that can be understood as preparatory to that concert: the two Romances for Violin and Orchestra that are interpreted here in a transcription of the orchestral parts for the piano. They are two pieces full of lyricism. Each of them allows one to imagine the slow tempo of a concerto.
