Auditorium CGD, Quelhas

On September 23, the conference "  Unequal Portugal: Income Inequality and Poverty", between 9:45 a.m. and 1:00 p.m., at the CGD Auditorium (Ed. Quelhas, 2nd floor).

The session is based on a study conducted by Professor Carlos Farinha (ISEG) for the Francisco Manuel dos Santos Foundation, entitled "Income Inequality and Poverty in Portugal: Social Consequences of the Adjustment Program".

This conference presents a rigorous assessment of the social consequences of one of the deepest crises Portugal has experienced in recent decades. It will also analyze the measures adopted by the public authorities.

The evolution of family incomes and the main indicators of inequality and poverty over the period 2009 to 2014 in Portugal will also be addressed. And, the sectors of the population most penalized by the crisis and the policies implemented during this period will be identified.

Myths about who suffered most during this period are confronted with the reality of the figures. Finally, the main international trends in the evolution of inequality and poverty will also be presented and discussed.

The conference will be attended by Michael Förster (Director of the OECD Social Policy Department), Carlos Farinha Rodrigues (Professor at ISEG and author of the study ""Income Inequality and Poverty in Portugal: The Social Consequences of the Adjustment Program") and moderated by Raquel Albuquerque (Expresso newspaper journalist).
