DEBATE | Are the 3Gs enough to reduce poverty in Africa? Is it all about Growth, Grants or Governance?

29 March from 18:00 to 18:01
Anf. BES | Floor 4 | Quelhas

With Jan Vandemoortele, former director of the United Nations Development Program and one of the architects of the Millennium Development Goals.

The debate will take as its starting point the latest data revealed by the World Bank that point to significant economic growth in Africa over the last decade, and will seek to understand whether this growth really contributes to poverty reduction in African countries. The panel discussion will be attended by João José Fernandes (Director of OIKOS), Mónica Ferro (Parliamentary Committee on Foreign Affairs) and Carlos Sangreman (researcher at CEsA/ISEG and professor at the University of Aveiro). The Lecture will be closed by H.E. Luís Brites Pereira, Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs and Cooperation.

The Kapuscinski Lectures, named after the Polish reporter Ryszard Kapuscinski, are a joint organization of the European Commission, the United Nations Development Programme and partner universities. Now in their third edition, the lectures are a unique European event for debate on development issues with experts from international organizations, politicians, civil society activists, entrepreneurs and academics.
