ISEG's Mini-Forest

We will be celebrating Earth Day on the 22nd April with a Workshop in ISEG's Mini-Forest, from 14.00 to 17.00.We'll spread organic matter on the soil and tend those plants that need it. We’ll also do some weeding and clean up the space and there will be a picnic to end the event.

We also have new inhabitants in the mini-forest🐞, as you can see in this photo!

The ISEG Mini-Forest Project is being developed within the framework of the TERRARE - action research for social and ecological regeneration. The project is being coordinated by researcher Oriana Rainho Brás (SOCIUS/CSG-ISEG), with the collaboration of biologist António Alexandre (FCUL and 2Adapt). Valorsul-Valorização e Tratamento de Resíduos Sólidos das Regiões de Lisboa e do Oeste, SA. is a partner in this project. TERRARE aims to reflect on the eco-social processes involved in creating an urban mini-forest with the participation of the university community, and on research into soil regeneration through community reforestation. This project is supported by ISEG Sustainability.

The Mini-Forest has been developed over several stages since October 2023: learning about the Miyawaki method of urban mini-forests; collecting soil samples for analysis; removing invasive plants; pruning the species and clearing the land; mapping the space, creating and marking the design of the mini-forest on the land; and planting the species and watering.
