Korea's Experiences in its Economic Development

On November 10, a lecture on South Korea's Economic Development experience will take place at ISEG, at 18h00, in Amphitheatre 3 (Ed. Quelhas).

South Korea is now the world's 13th largest economy and a member of the select G-20 group. With Japan, it is the second Asian country to join the OECD, the club of rich and developed countries. And over the past decade, it has rapidly climbed the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) Human Development Index (HDI) to rank 15th in 2014, ahead of countries such as Japan, France, Austria, Belgium, Italy or Portugal.

But this was not what was expected of the country at the end of 1953 after the national destruction and division of the Korean peninsula by the civil war. What has happened since then? The Ambassador of the Republic of Korea in Portugal, Yoon Lee, visits ISEG to tell us about the country's development experiences in recent decades.
