IX Iberian Symposium on Ripening and Post-Harvest

02 Nov / 05 Nov from 10:00 to 00:00
Auditoriums 4 and 5 (New Quelhas Building)

The Portuguese Horticultural Association (APH) and the Spanish Society of Horticultural Sciences (SECH) are organizing the  IX Iberian Symposium on Ripening and Post-Harvest,  between November 2 and 4, 2016, at ISEG (New Quelhas Building, Auditoriums 4 and 5).

Fresh produce such as fruit, vegetables, aromatic plants and flowers and the associated agri-food industries are synonymous with high value, both for nutrition and health and for the economy. This biennial event will once again bring together leading national and international researchers, technicians and specialists from the sector, other stakeholders from the private sector and students to discuss current post-harvest issues. By creating an environment for participatory dialogue and the exchange of knowledge and experiences, it promotes academic dissemination and discussion, as well as strengthening the links between scientific and technological knowledge and the needs and expectations of innovation and the development of processes which, together with the minimization of losses, add value to the organoleptic and nutritional quality of products, with environmental safety and sustainability.

The symposium will be organized into five thematic areas, each with plenary sessions, selected oral presentations and panel presentations:
1) Post-harvest losses: a global problem
2) Systems biology and ripening and post-harvest physiology
3) Conservation and minimum processing technologies
4) Quality management in the supply chain
5) Functional and nutritional changes during senescence, ripening and conservation
6) Consumer and industry demands and environmental sustainability
7) Post-harvest pathology
