About the exhibition

Why not understand money as a keyword?

"Dinheiro" is an artistic project that began in 2015 and involves a group of artists/art professors, mostly university students. This project has acquired various formal and conceptual bodies that will be exhibited at the Instituto Superior de Economia e Gestão of the University of Lisbon from October 28, 2016.

The universality of the apparently individual problems we all face can be a reason to think of money as a commonplace of the social structure that organizes us. But it's a commonplace that turns us into a collective mass that, despite being shapeless and often disregarded, is made up of humanities.

We are a collective entity governed by agreed systems and regulations, but nevertheless susceptible to other adjustments.

Thus, thinking about "Money" as a system, as a "keyword" or as a "commonplace", was the challenge taken on by artists from various fields, including drawing, design, painting, sculpture and literature. People with different backgrounds, conceptions and artistic processes.

The aim is to establish visual confrontations between the various forms and aesthetic solutions found around this subject and to expose them, motivating questions and interpretations, apparently inconclusive but always enriching because they can provide many different synergies.
This project, where "Money" can be seen as a "commonplace" but also as an organizing concept, is rooted in the principle that art, like other branches of knowledge, is not structured according to thinking around itself, but according to crossroads, unknowns, both material and spiritual, that cross our being and society without us realizing it.

"Money" was not structured as a group. It's about a group of people, artists, who have developed investigative processes that have created works, personal, differentiated responses, detached from the prejudices that characterize this value-establishing medium.
Money has been the justification for all conflicts and all joys. It corresponds to an age of man whose origin lies in exchanges, value and the power of one over another. Money is liquid, solid and symbolic. Money is matter, form and prejudice. Money shapes the most diverse social organizations and human interrelationships.

But if this social structure didn't exist, how would we be managed? Is there another system besides money? Or is money intrinsic to contemporary man?"
